For Teachers

Bring science into your classroom

Game for Science is a free multiplayer virtual world devoted to science, technology and free educational games online. It gives students and educators a shared place to explore scientific themes together.

Agriculture & Food Production

Science from the world of agriculture and food production

The worlds inside Game for Science cover science and technology through interactive content. Educators can bring the themes of agriculture and food production into the classroom, then follow the activity with structured written material.

  • Lesson plans for classroom use
  • Exploration notebooks to guide student inquiry
  • Portals covering distinct scientific themes, including Forestia, Physica and Genomia
  • Content available in English and French

Lesson plans and teacher resources are published on the Destination St. Lawrence teachers page. An exploration notebook on the St. Lawrence River is available via My exploration notebook.

Game for Science is a free multiplayer virtual world built entirely around science, technology and educational games online. Teachers can bring scientific themes straight into the classroom, giving students and educators a shared place to explore together. Rather than reading about a topic passively, learners move through interactive content, visit themed settings such as an island or a museum, take part in scavenger hunts, and follow structured written material after each activity. This approach turns abstract ideas into visible, navigable experiences that suit both primary and secondary levels, and it supports bilingual classrooms where French and English materials meet.

For educators looking for a distinctive way to enrich science and agriculture lessons, the world's themed content opens doors to subjects like agricultural and environmental sciences. A guided farm visit can walk a class through milk production, from the dairy barn and the milking process to storing, preserving and turning milk into butter, followed by a written explanation that reinforces what was seen. Built in collaboration with academic partners and faculties of education, the platform gives teachers, school counsellors and students a calm, well-organised environment for shared exploration of science, food production and the wider technological landscape.

How to use it

Three ways to bring the virtual world into your lessons

Explore a portal together

Send your class into one of the portals, each dedicated to a specific scientific theme, and use the in-game activities as the starting point of a lesson.

Discover the portals

Complete a quest

Quests such as Brought to You by Ship put students in charge of logistics, cargo, fuel and crews, turning maritime trade into a decision-making exercise.

Write it up

Use the exploration notebook to record what students observed and discovered in the virtual world, then extend the science content in the classroom.

Workshops

Professional learning for educators

Game for Science has hosted bilingual workshops for primary and secondary students and their educators, such as AgriSTEM and Education on March 9th, 2017, priced at $18 per part.

That workshop was held in collaboration with McGill University — Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, iScola and Science on Stage Canada.

Read the news announcement for the details of that session.
